The Moor Ghost

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down

They hauled him to the crossroads,

As day was at its close;
They hung him from the gallows
And left him for the crows.

His hands in life were bloody,
His ghost will not be still
He haunts the naked moorlands
About the gibbet hill.

And oft a lonely traveler
Is found upon the fen,
Whose dead eyes hold a horror
Beyond the world of men.

The villagers then whisper,
With accents grim and dour:
" This man has met at midnight
The phantom of the moor. "

You Turn, You Die

Have you ever turned back when your name has been aroused ? May be or may be not !! Depends on the person who z calling, right ?

Well ! The things we see and listen are not always from the existing species, it can be from a deathless creature. It is said that there is another world where people are not afraid of death as they have died once. It is the exact clone of the world we are living in, but with no life. Its the place where heartbeats don't exist.

Have you ever wondered, what will happen when the immortal meets the mortal ? I  know that's a strange question, but what if it happens ?

Just to the answer of this question, there is a tale from Singapore. It is said that there was a crew of 25 militants. A complete squad was on there routine patrol work, running from one destiny to another. And at the day end, they all have to assemble near their camps for the food and campfire. While everyone was having great session discussing what all happened in the nautical day, the lieutenant noticed that one of the militant was missing, they decided to wait till the morning, but no one returned. They set off the two groups in search of  the missing militant.

What they found was spooky, the missing militant was sitting under the tree, but there wasn't any flesh on him. It seemed that his skin was sucked by some immortal creature. And since then, it is anticipated that the soul of missing militant calls the name of the person 3 times and if the human being turned ones he would have to give him the flesh of his own. It is believed that the spirit becomes more active on the full moon night. It takes the flesh of the person, to complete it's own body.

"So, be alert and walk carefully, might happen that your name is called 3 times."

The Abandoned Parents

There is a place known for its superstitious ghosts, who slaps the mortal creatures (ie, us humans) around them.  Isn't it a bit strange to listen???? that.. ghosts are slapping!!! Are they some teachers giving punishments to their students (human beings) ??
Well ! its the horrified story of a house in New Delhi, India which is slammed with many stories about the presence of 2 ghosts having the joys of their immortal life.

It is said that there once lived an old couple, who died in the plea of their life. It is believed that they were brutally killed and tortured by their sons. They were beaten by their own children till they died. They grieved and were all in tears, blood coming out of their body but their own children didn't stop. Their children kept on torturing them till they lost their last breath and died. Their children did this in order to possess their own parent's property.
When there is absolute silence on the streets, when there is dizzying heaviness permeating in the air, that's the time when mankind can feel the paranormal activities around the house, on that  street.
Many have felt the unfamiliar smell crossing their nose. One of their neighbors have stated that they have listened the sounds of mourning across the street, over the night.

Though this house is hyper active at night, but the ones living their 2nd life in that house are calm in the noon. And that's the reason they are slapping every young soul who is hanging around the house or even the ones who are walking across the streets.
Although now the house is completely ruin.

Mirror

Mythical and Paranormal Realm | Myths | Tales:-

If you all are looking for some scary paranormal stuff, which are considered to be mythical tales too, so your at the right place and get all the amazing stuff here only, scroll down and get interesting myths given below :

Since mankind first saw its own reflection, we have been fascinated by surfaces that cast our image back to us. Possibly because of that fascination, there is an incredibly wide variety of superstitions, myths and urban legends surrounding mirrors specifically and reflective bodies in general.

Everyone has heard, for example, that breaking a mirror will bring seven years of bad luck. This superstition dates back to the Romans, who believed that life renewed itself every seven years, and that breaking a mirror would thus cause damage to the soul it was reflecting at the time for that duration.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that there are a number of folk remedies for relieving the seven years of bad luck. Early American slaves believed that the bad luck could be washed away by immersing the pieces of the broken mirror in south-flowing water for seven hours. Another tale says that the seven years of bad luck may be kept from taking effect by grinding the shards of the mirror into a fine powder so that they no longer reflect any images at all. Still another says that putting the broken pieces in a bag and burying it will accomplish the same thing.

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down

Mirrors were often used in magical and psychic rituals for scrying – remotely viewing another person or place – and communicating. They could also be used in magical rituals of divination – fortune telling and reading of the future. This was known as Catoptromancy or Enoptromancy, and was described in an ancient Greek text as being performed by lowering a mirror on a thread until its lower edge touched the surface of a basin of water. The person performing the ritual would then pray to the appropriate god or goddess before gazing into the reflections created by the combination of water and mirror.

Along those same lines, some ancient cultures believe that mirrors reflected the ‘shadow soul,’ and could show the true nature of the person being reflected. This may have contributed to the legends about vampires and demons having no reflections, since they are said to have no souls to reflect. The absence of a reflection thus reveals their true nature.

In the Jewish religion, it is important to cover all mirrors in a house where someone has died while the family is sitting Shivah (the seven-day mourning period). It is said that if the mirrors aren’t covered, the spirit of the deceased may become trapped in one and not be able to move on to the afterlife.

Some cultures took this further, insisting that mirrors should be covered at night and when people in the house are sleeping, to make sure that a dreamer’s wandering soul doesn’t get trapped in one. In Serbo-Croatian culture, a mirror was sometimes buried with the dead, both to prevent the spirit from wandering and to keep evil men from rising.

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down

One of the most famous mirror-related urban legends is that of Bloody Mary, a story that could take up an entire article by itself. Most often it involved pre-teens and teenagers who dare a friend to go into a bathroom, close the door and turn off the light, then chant some variation of “Bloody Mary…” several times. There are more variations of the chant than any one person has ever collected, and the number of times the spirit needs to be called out to varies just as widely.

Most times, the person dared will be too afraid of the repercussions to go through with it, and will either bolt out of the room in panic or simply pretend to have done it. Because going through with it has a terrible cost; according to the stories, calling out to this spirit brings her vengeance down upon the person doing so, resulting in anything from simple terrorizing through murder all the way to being dragged into the mirror, never to be seen again. Clive Barker brought this concept to the big screen in his movie Candyman, where the titular spirit is called forth (to do really awful things to his summoner) by saying his name three times while looking in a mirror.

Since mirrors are often considered to be portals in some way, one never knows what might come through when the conditions are right (or wrong, as the case may be). And what could be worse than being in a pitch-black room with a mirror and suddenly hearing something else moving around in the room with you when you know there was nothing there when you came in. If the fright doesn’t kill you, whatever has come through probably will.

Clearly, a mirror in a dark room with no or little light can be a dangerous thing. Viewing a mirror by candlelight also holds many dangers, if myths and legends are to be believed. One legend says that viewing a mirror by nothing but candlelight will show you your reflection – and that of any entities inhabiting your home, be they ghosts or otherwise. Needless to say, once you become aware of them, they also become aware of you…and odds are good that they won’t be friendly.

There are more superstitions involving mirrors than can easily be counted, but not all of them are negative. For example:

If a new couple first catch sight of each other in a mirror, they will have a happy marriage.

To see an image of her future husband, a girl was told to eat an apple while sitting in front of a mirror, then brush her hair. While doing so, an image of the man would appear behind her shoulder.

If you feel sorrowful or troubled while home alone, with no one to talk to and no apparent way to control your depression, stand before a mirror and gaze into your eyes. Your anxiety should disappear.

Ancient Chinese believed that mirrors frightened away evil spirits who were scared by their own appearance. If the mirror was broken, the protection was lost.

Needless to say, there are a vastly larger number of negative superstitions related to mirrors, including such things as:

If a mirror falls and breaks by itself, someone in the house will soon die.

Someone seeing their reflection in a room where someone has recently died, will soon die themselves.

•    Actors believe that it is bad luck to see their reflection while looking over the shoulder of another person.

Ideally, no mirror should be hung so low that it “cuts off” the tallest household member’s head (doing so may cause headaches).

For myself, I think I’ll continue my habit of keeping my bathroom door closed at night and reaching in to flip the light on before opening the door all the way.Just in case.

The Blue Baby Legend

Mythical And Paranormal Realm | Myths | Horror Stories | Scary Tales

Whether its an unsolved mystery, a popular misconception, or sometimes just a big hoax urban legends are an inevitable part of any culture. But, plenty of these classic myths are actually true — and the truth is often more ghastly and macabre than the fiction. Even more interesting is how some of these fables originated. Myths have to start somewhere, and oftentimes it’s a dark chapter in history or a strange effect of our own minds. Sometimes, the boogeyman is real. And, that face you saw in the bathroom mirror? You weren’t imagining it. Here are one of the most popular urban legends still being told:-

To execute this legend, you need to go into the bathroom, close the door and shut off the lights. This could possibly be enough to start the creepy factor, depending on how small your bathroom is and whether you are claustrophobic or not.

The next step is to pretend that you are rocking a baby, while you chant the phrase “Blue Baby” thirteen times.

They say a baby will appear and
scratch you. When this happens you must drop it and run, because if you don’t a women will appear and scream loud enough to break the glass, “Give me back my baby!” If you are still found to be holding the baby, she will kill you. Are you brave enough to rock the baby?

Carmen Winstead

Mythical and Paranormal Realm | Myths | Tales:-

If you all are looking for some scary paranormal stuff, which are considered to be mythical tales too, so your at the right place and get all the amazing stuff here only, scroll down and get interesting myths given below :

The story of Carmen Winstead is a chain letter about a 17 year old girl who died when she was pushed down a sewer by five girls she thought were her friends. After lunch, her teacher announced that the school was holding a fire drill. When the alarm sounded, Carmen and the other students filed out of the classroom and assembled in the yard outside. As the teachers read out the roll call, the gang of five girls decided that this was a great opportunity to embarrass Carmen in front of the whole school during the fire drill.

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me downThey moved over to where Carmen was standing, near a sewer drain, and began crowding the poor girl, getting in her face and nudging her towards the open manhole. They pushed her and she tripped over and fell head-first down the manhole. When they saw her falling, the girls started giggling and when Carmen’s name was called out, they shouted “She’s down in the sewer!”All of the other students began laughing.

But when the teachers looked down the manhole and saw Carmen’s body lying at the bottom in the muck and the poop, the laughter abruptly stopped. Her head was twisted around at an odd angle and her face was covered in blood. Worse still, she wasn’t moving. There was nothing any of the teachers could do for her. Carmen was dead. When the police arrived and went down into the sewer, they determined that she had broken her neck. Her face had been torn off when she hit the ladder on the way down and her neck snapped when she landed on her head on the concrete at the bottom. The police hauled Carmen’s body out of the sewer and sent her to the mortuary. Everyone had to stay behind after school while the police questioned all of Carmen’s classmates.

The five girls lied to the police, saying they had witnessed Carmen falling down the sewer. The police believed the girls and Carmen Winstead’s death was ruled an accident and the case was closed. Everyone thought that was the last they would hear of Carmen Winstead, but they were wrong. Months later Carmen’s classmates began receiving strange e-mails on their MySpaces. The e-mails were titled “They Pushed Her” and claimed that Carmen hadn’t really fallen down the sewer, she had been pushed. The e-mails also warned that the guilty people should own up and take responsibility for their crime. If they didn’t there would be horrible consequences.

Most people dismissed the e-mails as a hoax, but others were not so sure. A few days later one of the girls who pushed Carmen down the sewer was at home taking a shower, when she heard a strange cackling laugh. It seemed to be coming from the drain. The girl started to freak out and ran out of the bathroom. That night, the girl said goodnight to her mom and went to sleep. Five hours later, her mom was awoken in the middle of the night, by a loud noise that resounded throughout the house

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down She ran into her daughter’s  room, only to find it empty.  There was no  trace of the  girl. The worried mother  called the police and when  they  arrived they conducted  a search of the area.  Eventually, they  discovered  the girl’s grisly remains. Her  corpse was lying in the  sewer, covered in muck and  poop. Her neck was broken  and her face  missing.  It had  been completely torn off.One by one, all of the girls who  pushed  Carmen that day were found dead. They had all been killed in  exactly the  same way and were all found at exactly the same spot. In  the sewer at  the bottom of the same uncovered manhole where Carmen  had met her  doom.

But the killing didn’t stop there. More and more of Carmen’s former  classmates were found dead. It seemed that anyone who didn’t believe  that Carmen had been pushed, was eventually found down in the sewer  with their necks broken and their faces torn off. They say that Carmen’s  ghost is still on the rampage, hunting down anyone who doesn’t believe her story.

According to the legend, Carmen will get you, whether it’s from a toilet, a shower, a sink or a drain. When you go to sleep, you’ll wake up in the sewer, in complete darkness, paralyzed, unable to move, hearing cackling laughter all around you. Then, as you scream in horror, Carmen will come and tear your face off.

There is a legend in Japan and China about a girl called Kuchisake-Onna, also known as the slit-mouthed woman. Some say that she was a samurai’s wife. One day, she cheated on her husband with a younger and better-looking man. When the husband returned, he discovered her betrayal; enraged and furious, he took his sword and slit her mouth ear-to-ear.

According to the legend, children walking alone at night may encounter a woman wearing a surgical mask, which is not an unusual sight in Japan as people wear them to protect others from their colds or sickness.

The woman will stop the child and ask,
“Am I pretty???” If the child answers no, the child is killed with a pair of scissors which the woman carries. If the child answers yes, the woman pulls away the mask, revealing that her mouth is slit from ear to ear, and asks “How about now???” If the child answers no, he/she will be cut in half. If the child answers yes, then she will slit his/her mouth like hers. It is impossible to run away from her, as she will simply reappear in front of the victim.

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down   When the legend reappeared, the 1970's rumors of ways    to escape also emerged. Some sources say she can also        be confused by the victim answering her question with      ambiguous answers, such as “You are average” or “So-      so”. Unsure of what to do, she will give a person enough    time to escape while she is lost in thought.

Another escape route is to tell her one has a previous         engagement; she will pardon her manners and excuse herself. In some variations of the tale, she can be distracted by
fruit or candies thrown at her which she will then pick up, thus giving the victim a chance to run. She will also be at an advantage to run toward you if she has the chance. Another way is for the child to ask her if the child is pretty; she will get confused and leave.

Bloody Mary

The legend of Bloody Mary originated in European folklore during the late Middle Ages. It was said she was the tormented spirit of the violent Queen Mary I of England, who earned the nickname “Bloody Mary” for burning hundreds of religious dissenters at the stake. Her spirit resided in mirrors, appearing when called into view by repeating her name three times.

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down , bloody mary
She would either show the face of the caller’s future husband or wife, or display a skull, indicating they would die before marriage. The legend evolved over the years, with more modern versions of the story portraying her as a pale, witch-like woman, wailing for her lost child and killing those who bring her forth. The first way you can have Mary come and pay a visit to you is:

On a Friday the 13th turn off all the lights in your house. Make your way to the bathroom and turn on the water in the sink, as well as, the bathtub and flush the toilet. Then, look into your mirror and recite “Blood Mary” five times. She may just appear in the mirror and if she does you better turn on those lights real quick or she will stab you in your back.

The second way to conjure up a visit from Mary is:You must be alone in the dark and in front of a mirror. While you say “Bloody Mary” three times, you must turn around in place. After the third time, she will appear behind you in the mirror and scare you half to death.

The Cow Headed Legend

Mythical and Paranormal Realm | Myths | Tales:-

If you all are looking for some scary paranormal stuff, which are considered to be mythical tales too, so your at the right place and get all the amazing stuff here only, scroll down and get interesting myths given below :

According to legend, a horrific short story called “Cow Head” was discovered in Japan in the 17th Century. The actual origin of the story is still shrouded in mystery. Several written accounts from this era make reference to the awful story, but they only mention its title and describe it as a tale too terrible to tell. Rumors state that upon hearing the dreadful tale, listeners were overcome with a terror so great that they trembled violently for days until they finally died from fright.

The Cow Head story was deemed too dangerous and most existing copies of it were burned years ago. The few copies that survived were cut into sections and distributed across the country. Today, it is believed that only fragments of the original story remain in existence. Most of the actual details of the story remain unknown to this day. The unfortunate people who read the story never lived long enough to repeat it.

One recent Rumour tells of an elementary school teacher who inexplicably came into possession of some fragments of the original “Cow Head” story. According to the Rumour, the teacher was taking his class on a school trip. He was in the habit of entertaining the students on the bus with ghost stories. The students, who tended to become unruly on long trips, grew remarkably subdued as they listened to the teacher’s horrific tales. Many of them seemed truly frightened. After some time, the teacher announced he would tell them the legendary forbidden tale called “Cow Head.” Before he could finish the first sentence of the story, however, the children began to panic. “Stop!” they cried. “Don’t tell us!”

One child turned pale and covered his ears, and the others began to scream. But the teacher refused to stop. They say his eyes went blank and he proceeded with the story as if some unseen force had taken over his mind. Almost an hour later, the teacher regained his senses and found that the bus had crashed into a ditch. The students had all fainted and were frothing at the mouth. The bus driver lay slumped over the wheel, sweating and shivering.

It is unclear what happened next, except that the teacher never told the “Cow Head” story again.

The Snake Woman | Nure Onna

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down, snake women, snake woman

The Snake Woman or “Nure Onna” is a japanese urban legend about a vicious dragon-like creature with the head of a woman and the body of an enormous snake. She has creepy snake-like eyes, long scaly arms that end in claws, sharp fangs and long, beautiful hair. The Snake Woman haunts the shoreline and preys on unsuspecting swimmers and fishermen.

When she spots her prey, she rises from the water and paralyzes her victim with her eyes. She then uses her long, snake-like tongue to suck all the blood out of her victim’s body. Despite her incredible length, Nure Onna can hide in deceptively shallow pools of water. She has even been known to use her beautiful face and hair to lure swimmers to their deaths.

She bobs her head on the surface of the water and flaps her arms, pretending to be a drowning woman. When someone dives in to save her, she rises up, snatches them with her claws and drags them down to the murky depths. Once she has you in her sights, it is difficult to escape the grasp of the Snake Woman. She can suddenly spring great distances to grab you, so the best way to protect yourself against her is to avoid walking alone on the beach at night.

The Cursed Devil's Tree

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down, cursed tree

Standing in Oak Hammock Park in Bernards Township, New Jersey is an unusual and sinister oak tree, commonly referred to as the Devil’s Tree. According to local legends, unexplainable things happen near it, and many deaths and suicides are said to have occurred under its branches. Some people have reported feeling an oppressive, evil presence near the tree, hearing screams and seeing dark, hooded figures skulking about. Others claim to have been pursued by a black phantom car that disappears without a trace as you approach a major road.

Damaging or disrespecting the tree in any way is said to have severe consequences. Those who so much as make mocking remarks within hearing range will soon come to harm, possibly by getting into a car accident or by experiencing a major breakdown. Strangely enough, when the city ordered the tree cut down to make way for a public park, the workers’ chainsaws refused to function near it – but were perfectly fine later. Not about to give up so easily, they brought in an old-fashioned pull saw made of tempered steel. The attempt failed again; the teeth broke right off the saw, and the city had no choice but to leave the tree where it was. Why is this innocuous oak such a hub for strange happenings? Some people believe the tree is the property of the Devil himself and serves as a gateway to hell. It supposedly remains warm to the touch no matter how cold it is outside, and no snow will fall near it even in the middle of winter.

Devil's Stomping Ground

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down

According to stories dating back to the 1800s, a spot in the woods near Bennett, North Carolina is where the Devil can rise from the depths of hell and come to earth. There he paces in circles on certain nights, plotting new horrors to unleash upon mankind and bringing evil into our world. This place, called the Devil’s Stomping Ground, is a barren, circular patch of land about 15 feet across.

Supposedly, the spot is hostile to life, as nothing can grow in the circle and animals shy away from it – one visitor’s dog choked itself on its leash trying to get away from the center. Others claim to have witnessed small animals dying on its edge. Furthermore, the state’s Department of Agriculture once analyzed a sample of the soil and determined it to be completely sterile due to a high salt content. It is said that no one can spend the night inside the Devil’s Stomping Ground.

According to the legend, anyone that tries will find themselves and their belongings moved outside the circle come morning. The same applies to items – many locals swear that anything left in the circle overnight is moved by morning.Whether the Devil’s Stomping Ground is a mere myth brought to life by people’s imaginations or a genuinely otherworldly place is quite uncertain.

Skinwalkers

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me downSkinwalkers are ancient Navajo monsters who use black magic to turn into animal form and use that ability for evil. They are men and rarely women who have gained supernatural power by breaking a cultural taboo.

A shaman gains the power of a skinwalker, or yee naaldlooshii in the Navajo language, by renouncing the traditional ways of Navajo magic and adopting the teachings of the Witchery Way. At the highest level of priesthood, he or she must then make the final sacrifice of murdering a blood relative: a parent, a sibling, or a child. With this destruction of their humanity, they have gained the evil power inherent to the yee naaldlooshii. A skinwalker can take the form, speed and strength of any animal it wishes, depending on what abilities it needs.

Many Navajo believe it can even steal the skin, or body, of a human being; locking eyes with a skinwalker allows it to immerse itself into your body. Some say skinwalkers are easy to recognize in animal form, as they are unable to move entirely naturally, and some Navajo describe them as distorted and mutated forms of the animals they are emulating. Furthermore, a skinwalker’s eyes glow like an animal’s when in human form and appear human when in the form of an animal.

Black Eyed Kids

scary, horror, haunted, story, spooky, witch, demon, myths, tales, paranormal, creepy, haunt me down, big black eyes, black eyes kids

Imagine doing whatever it is you, late at night, just before getting ready for bed, when suddenly you hear a knock at the front door. Wary and wondering who it could be at such an hour, you crack the door open and look outside.

What you see is two or three kids, likely boys, in their early teens or slightly younger – it’s difficult to tell for sure. Their appearances are perfectly nondescript and unremarkable in every way. However, looking at them, you immediately feel that there is something wrong about them, something inhuman that you can’t quite put your finger on. One of the kids asks very politely to be let in, maybe to use the bathroom, or the phone, or to have a glass of water. You can’t help but notice that the way he talks seems much too mature and confident for a kid that age. Despite your hesitation, you feel a strange urge to do as the boy tells you. Noticing your increasing apprehension, he becomes more and more insistent, all but demanding to be let in

Then you get a look at his eyes. They are pitch black, no sign of irises or pupils. As soon as you realize this, a wave of paralyzing terror hits you. Your instincts are screaming you are about to die. You manage to compose yourself enough to slam the door shut, but the fear and panic stay with you for hours afterwards. If you’ve experienced something like this, you may have encountered a phenomenon known as Black Eyed Kids.

Jorogumo

When corrupted, the shape-shifting spider-women of Japan take on a hybrid, monstrous form which is sure to put The Fear in anyone. Usually, they are just spiders which turn into women. Jorogumo changes its appearance into a beautiful woman to ask a samurai to marry her, or takes the form of a young woman carrying a baby (which may turn out to be a spider’s egg-sack).No one’s really sure why, but scholars suggest female spiders gain magical powers if they live for four hundred years. Jorogumo have only a few vices. Drinking, eating, and men. Hmm, or was it – drinking and eating men? I forget, either way, keep your distance.

Tale

A Jorōgumo is also known as the mistress of the Jōren Falls in Izu, Shizuoka. The legend has it that a man was resting at the foot of the waterfall when his feet were bound with a vast number of spider threads. To free himself, he cut the threads and tied them to a stump of a tree, which was pulled from the ground and drawn into the waters.

After this incident at the Jōren waterfall, the villagers became afraid and stopped going to the waterfall. However, one day, a woodsman logger from out of town, unaware of the story of the Jōren Jorōgumo, began cutting wood in the area. After he accidentally dropped his axe into the water, he dove into the pool to find it; then a beautiful woman appeared and returned the axe, telling him never to tell anyone about her. While the logger kept the promise, he began to feel anxious about the incident. One day while he was drunk, he told his secret and finally felt at ease. He then fell into a deep sleep never to awaken again.

In a variation of the story of the Jōren waterfall, the logger falls in love with the woman Jorōgumo and starts visiting the falls every day to see her. But as time passes, he starts growing weaker and weaker. A monk from a neighboring temple believes the logger has been trapped by the spider, so he and the logger go to the waterfall together, and the monk reads a Buddhist Sūtra there. While the monk reads the sutra, spider threads appear from the pool and attempt to wrap themselves around the logger, but the monk shouts his Buddhist chant and they disappear. Though the logger soon realizes that the woman was a spider, he cannot forget his love for her. He then asks for help from a Tengu, master of the Yōkai of the mountain, but the Tengu forbids this love. The logger was unwilling to give up his love for the Jorōgumo. While running back to the waterfall he is caught by the silk threads and finally falls into the water, never to surface again.

The Jikininki are a class of hungry spirits from Japanese mythology. The hungry spirits are a type of being that are said to have more suffering in their lives than animals but less suffering that those in hell. They live their lives in constant hunger and thirst always searching for food. Any food they find quickly vanishes and they are left weak and hungry. The Jikininki are the 26th class of spirits. It is believed that leaving food offerings out for them and saying compassionate prayers towards them will help liberate them from their suffering state so that when they die they are reborn as animals, humans are gods.

The Jikininki specifically were cursed at death to become a Jikininki and now they feed only human corpses. They do this at night, scavenging newly fresh dead bodies and any food offering that has been left out for the dead.

They are even known to steal precious items such as jewellery from the dead bodies. They have the appearances of decomposing humans with sharp claws and glowing eyes. They have such a horrible sight that they terrify anyone who sets eyes upon them.
