The Haunted Bridge

Mythical And Paranormal Realm | Myths | Horror Stories | Scary Tales

Whether its an unsolved mystery, a popular misconception, or sometimes just a big hoax urban legends are an inevitable part of any culture. But, plenty of these classic myths are actually true — and the truth is often more ghastly and macabre than the fiction. Even more interesting is how some of these fables originated. Myths have to start somewhere, and oftentimes it’s a dark chapter in history or a strange effect of our own minds. Sometimes, the boogeyman is real. And, that face you saw in the bathroom mirror? You weren’t imagining it.
Here is one of the most popular urban legends still being told :-

One day, Ronny was browsing on the internet, He read a story about a certain suspension bridge that was located close to his home. The website had plenty of pictures of the bridge and the surrounding area.

The next time he met my uncle, he told him about the bridge. It was an old suspension bridge that crossed over a deep gorge. For some unknown reason, it was known as a spot that was notorious for suicides. Every year, at least 5 or 10 people would throw themselves off the bridge and died. Nobody could explain why. They said that the spot was haunted by the ghosts of all the people who had committed suicide there.

The Haunted Bridge

When my uncle went home that evening, he decided that he had to check out the bridge. He desperately wanted to see a ghost. So, that very night, he set out for the mountains where the bridge was located. It took him about half an hour to get there.

It was almost midnight, when he arrived at the bridge and there was not a single person around. It was dark and deathly quiet. The atmosphere was so spooky and ominous that it sent a chill down his spine.

“everything is fake” he muttered to himself as he cautiously walked to the edge of the gorge and peered down into its depths. He began thinking about all of the people who had thrown themselves down into the inky blackness.

It was so fascinating that he felt forced to tell his friend, Ronny about it, so he pulled out his cell phone to call him. However, since he was high up in the mountains, he could not get any reception.

Looking around, my uncle noticed a phone booth standing nearby. He went inside, put some coins in the slot and dialed Ronny’s number.

“Hello Ronny! guess what” he said, ”I am standing on the same bridge about which you told me recently, it is such an awesome view from here, dude you too accompany me here and bring Daniel along too”.

“why not” replied Ronny. “I have searched this place and all its surrounding on google, wait I’m coming… anyways from where have you managed to call me?”

My uncle laughed. “Oh, my phone’s signal was dead so I called you from a local Payphone …”

His friend was confused. “Payphone? Dude there is nothing like a payphone over there, if it existed I could have seen it in the pictures on google.”

“what are you saying? , you have not checked the place properly, there’s a payphone near the entrance of the bridge… and Ronny, be quick. I’m keeping the phone as there’s a long queue of people waiting outside the payphone”

As soon as he said this Ronny shouted, “No! don’t cut the phone, dude don’t move from your place, be where you are and for God’s sake don’t move even an inch, I know that location wait I am reaching there”
“but what happened?” my uncle asked.

“dude promise me that you won’t move even slightly, don’t respond to the people outside regardless to what they speak” said Ronny
When his friend hung up, my uncle felt a wave of fear envelop him, he didn’t cut the phone, and stood where he was, as he looked outside all the people were staring at him. The look in their eyes sent a shiver down his spine.

Half an hour later, when Ronny arrived at the suspension bridge, he found his friend standing at the very edge of the bridge. He was holding his cell phone against his ear. He had no clue what he is doing.

There was no phone booth and no line of people waiting to use the phone. If he had moved an inch, he would have fallen off the edge and died.
