Whether its an unsolved mystery, a popular misconception, or sometimes just a big hoax urban legends are an inevitable part of any culture. But, plenty of these classic myths are actually true — and the truth is often more ghastly and macabre than the fiction. Even more interesting is how some of these fables originated. Myths have to start somewhere, and oftentimes it’s a dark chapter in history or a strange effect of our own minds. Sometimes, the boogeyman is real. And, that face you saw in the bathroom mirror? You weren’t imagining it. Here are one of the most popular urban legends still being told:-
The legend of Bloody Mary originated in European folklore during the late Middle Ages. It was said she was the tormented spirit of the violent Queen Mary I of England, who earned the nickname “Bloody Mary” for burning hundreds of religious dissenters at the stake. Her spirit resided in mirrors, appearing when called into view by repeating her name three times. She would either show the face of the caller’s future husband or wife, or display a skull, indicating they would die before marriage. The legend evolved over the years, with more modern versions of the story portraying her as a pale, witch-like woman, wailing for her lost childand killing those who bring her forth. The first way you can have Mary come and pay a visit to you is: On a Friday the 13th turn off all the lights in your house. Make your way to the bathroom and turn on the water in the sink, as well as, the bathtub and flush the toilet. Then, look into your mirror and recite “Blood Mary” five times. She may just appear in the mirror and if she does you better turn on those lights real quick or she will stab you in your back.
The second way to conjure up a visit from Mary is:You must be alone in the dark and in front of a mirror. While you say “Bloody Mary” three times, you must turn around in place. After the third time, she will appear behind you in the mirror and scare you half to death.
